We Competed. We Fought. We Finished Third.
The Second term's Interhouse Sports Competition was nothing short of spectacular. Our students took to the track, field, and court with incredible passion, energy, and school spirit — representing School Masters Academy with their heads held high throughout the entire competition.
Overall Standings
The Spirit of Competition
From the opening march-past to the final relay race, every student who participated showed the true meaning of sportsmanship. Our athletes trained hard in the weeks leading up to the event, pushing their personal limits and supporting each other every step of the way.
While we may not have taken home the championship trophy this time, the lessons learned, friendships forged, and memories created on the field are what truly matter. Our students left everything on the track, and that is a victory in itself.
Teamwork Above Everything
One of the most moving moments of the day was our relay team — students from different year groups running together, passing the baton with trust and precision. The crowd cheered loudest for the effort, not just the result.
Our coaching staff and teachers stood alongside the students throughout the day, giving encouragement and tactical guidance. The atmosphere was electric, filled with school colours, chants, and the unmistakable energy of young people giving their absolute best.
"Coming third is not a loss — it is proof that we belong at the table. Our students competed with pride, they finished standing tall, and they have already set their sights on next term. We could not be more proud of every single one of them."
— School Masters Academy Sports Coordinator
Exploring Creativity at the Ecobank Art Museum
Learning extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom. This term, our students had the incredible privilege or visiting the Ecobank Art Museum — a world-class cultural destination that opened their eyes to Nigeria's rich artistic heritage and the universal language of visual art.
A World of Art, History & Imagination
The moment our students stepped through the doors of the Ecobank Art Museum, they entered a space where history, culture, and creativity converge. From striking contemporary paintings to traditional Nigerian sculptures and mixed-media installations, every exhibit told a story that resonated with young, curious minds.
Guided tours led by museum educators helped students understand the intent behind each piece — connecting art to history, society, and personal expression. Our students asked insightful questions, sketched their favourite pieces, and engaged in discussions that would continue long after the trip was over.
This excursion was more than a day out. It was a deliberate investment in cultural literacy, empathy, and creative thinking — skills that no textbook alone can teach.
"The way our students engaged with the artworks was remarkable. They saw connections to their own lives, their culture, their stories. That is exactly what great art is supposed to do — and that is exactly what happened."
— Class Teacher, School Masters Academy
Cultural Awareness
Students were exposed to Nigerian and African artistic traditions, deepening their appreciation for their own heritage and the diversity of human expression.
Critical Thinking
Interpreting art requires analysis, empathy and perspective. Students practiced forming and defending their own interpretations in real time.
Creative Inspiration
Many students returned with fresh ideas for their own artwork. Several Art classes in the weeks following the visit reflected the direct influence of what they saw.
Hands in the Dough — Baking Practice for Primary School
There is no better classroom than the kitchen. Our Primary School students rolled up their sleeves and got their hands floury this term during a dedicated baking session — one of the most joyful, educational, and delicious activities of the entire school year.
Flour, Butter, Teamwork & Joy
The baking session was thoughtfully designed to teach our Primary School pupils far more than how to follow a recipe. Under the careful supervision of their teachers, students learned about measurements and fractions in a practical context, the science of how heat transforms raw ingredients, the importance of patience and following instructions, and the incredible satisfaction of making something with their own hands.
Students worked in small teams, dividing responsibilities — some measured ingredients, others mixed and kneaded, while others managed the timing. The result was not just baked goods, but a lesson in collaboration, communication, and shared pride.
The proud smiles on their faces when they presented their finished products — golden, warm, and fragrant — were worth more than any formal assessment could measure.
"Watching our Primary students bake together was one of the highlights of my term. They were focused, they helped each other, they troubleshot when things did not go to plan — and in the end, they were so proud of what they made. That is learning at its finest."
— Primary School Teacher, School Masters AcademyMaths in Action
Measuring cups, grams, and minutes gave students a direct, tangible experience with fractions, weights, and time — concepts that can be hard to grasp on paper alone.
Collaboration & Roles
Each student had a defined role within their team, building an understanding of responsibility, delegation, and how individual contributions create a shared result.
Life Skills & Independence
Basic cooking skills are foundational life skills. By introducing them early, we build confidence, self-sufficiency, and an appreciation for the effort behind everyday meals.
What Last Term Taught Us All
Every event this term was carefully curated to stretch our students beyond academic knowledge — into character, creativity, resilience, and real-world skills. Here is what we take into Third Term.
Resilience Builds Champions
Third place at Interhouse Sports is not a consolation — it is a foundation. Our athletes learned that consistent effort, team spirit, and a refusal to quit are the qualities that define true winners. We return to training with renewed hunger.
Culture Opens the Mind
The Ecobank Art Museum visit reminded us that education lives in museums, galleries, and the world outside. Our students left with wider perspectives, sharper curiosity, and a genuine love for Nigerian art and culture.
Practical Skills Matter
Baking taught our Primary pupils that learning is not confined to textbooks. When children apply knowledge with their hands, the lessons stick for life. We will continue to create these real-world learning moments across all year groups.
A Message to Our Parents
Thank You for Your Continued Trust & Support
None of what you have read on this page is possible without the partnership of parents who believe in giving children rich, memorable, and meaningful experiences. Your support — whether at the sports stands, on school trip forms, or in encouraging your children at home — makes all the difference. We are immensely grateful, and we promise to keep raising the bar in Third Term and beyond.
